Introduction
For newcomers to the site, this newsletter is circulated monthly to registered site members and friends, to supplement information on the site itself. Please forward to colleagues and other interested individuals in order to publicise the site. If you are a recent newcomer to the site, welcome - your readership is appreciated.
Proposed Housing Development at the Garages, Rothmans Avenue
A planning application has been submitted to Chelmsford council for the building of 4 new houses at the rear of existing properties on Rothmans Avenue to replace an existing garage block adjacent to one corner of the Recreation Ground. Local residents may wish to comment on the plans.
Sandon Women's Institute
Sandon WI recently commemorated
their 90th anniversary by placing a plaque in the memorial garden in
Sandon churchyard. The photo shows members attending the event.
U3A Church Visiting Group
The U3A Church Visiting Group visited Great Leighs on Friday,
28 March 2008. Members were warmly welcomed and given a
detailed account of the history of the church, which is one of only 6
in Essex with a round tower which has stood for 1000 years.
The East window shows scenes from Christ's life.
Zebra crossing, Baddow Road
The preliminary work on creating a new crossing near the entrance road to the Recreation ground/Millennium Centre appears complete and a limited amount of road resurfacing has taken place.
Transport changes
A new local bus timetable was published in March and the
site has been updated to reflect the very few changes to
existing services. The service to Southend, route 3 operated by Regal
Busways, appears permanent, as earlier it was subject to review in
February. The only change noted is that service 31A which serves
Woodham Walter and Little Baddow on weekdays and Maldon on Saturdays
has slightly
revised timings from 7 April 2008.
Senior citizens should be aware of the changes affecting bus passes.
New ones should be issued by end of April to all existing
users ( i already have mine) and meanwhile, existing passes
should be accepted. Note that the new passes are valid for
travel on any local bus service in England but for journeys originating
in Chelmsford are now only valid on weekdays after 9.30am - anytime
weekends. More information from the DirectGov
website.
Site Changes
The changes proposed last month have been implemented; i.e "Have your say" was removed and "Feedback" was renamed "Contact us" and moved up the menu. The latter has proved a positive change as 2 users have subsequently made use of the form to make comments about the site.
Additional changes have been made to "Advertisements"
with new advertisers, Peckish
catering and a
language school. Details of the Bridge sessions at the
Millennium Centre have been added to "What's
on When".
