Introduction

For newcomers to the site, this newsletter is circulated monthly to registered site members and friends, to supplement information on the site itself. Please forward to colleagues and other interested individuals in order to publicise the site. If you are a recent newcomer to the site, welcome - your readership is appreciated.

Development at the Army and Navy

The consultation on the Army and Navy Air Quality Management Area last month is now completed and the Council is reviewing comments before providing feedback. A number of local residents attended the drop in at the Millennium Centre on 23 February and were able to express views and concerns to the Council representatives.

At present the primary options are for link slip roads from Van Dieman's road into Parkway and from Parkway into Chelmer road across the old pub and Jewson sites respectively.

However, a number of people feel that additional traffic management issues should be addressed and I myself have provided a  fairly radical set of proposals which have been submitted to the Council in response to the consultation. If you are interested in reviewing my comments and replying to me, my feedback to the Council is available on the web site. I have already received some comments and gather that some of my proposals in respect of public transport may require legislation before implementation, although those reviewing my document will see that I'm taking a long term view!

Community Association

I recently received a news update from Great Baddow Community Association and was interested in the range of facilities and activities at the Social club, as well as the various excursions to places of interest. I note that there are at present over 1,700 members which must represent a fair number of local residents. It is organisations such as this, along with the many other clubs and societies that keep the 'village' atmosphere thriving - more difficult each year as the boundary between Chelmsford town and Great Baddow becomes less distinct. If you live in Great Baddow, consider joining if you are not already a member.

U3A activity

Following on from the comment on the Community Association, the local Great baddow and Galleywood U3A continues to thrive and recently held its AGM. A number of us are involved in computer workshops and it is interesting to note how many mature people are enthusiastic in learning about computing. During a recent discussion, it was useful to receive constructive comment on the website and learn which sections are of interest to browsers.

Site Changes

As a result of feedback I propose to make some further changes to the site.

Because of confusion over the two menu options "Feedback" and "Have your say". One of these, "Have your say" will be removed, and the other will be renamed "Contact us". It will also be moved up the menu list to encourage use - indeed to date, only one person has made use of it!

The statistics section has now been redeveloped; the content relating to the last quarter of 2006 has been archived along with that for individual months for 2007. At present we are showing data corresponding to each of the 4 quarters for 2007 and individual months for 2008. As a point of observation, February 2008 appeared to be a relatively quiet month for browsing activity, even accounting for it being a shorter, albeit leap month.

A number of updates have been made to the "Business index", "What's on when" and the "Advertisements" sections of the site. The Cabin newsagents in Beehive Lane and All Mobile Stuff, a supplier of mobile phone accessories in the Bringy have been added to the Business index. Details of regular Friday meetings of an exercise regime "Otago" have been added to "What's on when", and details for "Real-Outfitting", a clothing and accessories online retailer, have been added to the Advertisements section.  A further advertisement for a person who hires hats will be added shortly. The advertisements section which has been in its present format for over a year is also now due for review and I am considering changing the design layout to a screen of logos or picture icons which link to individual advertisements. Any comments are welcome.
