Introduction
For newcomers to the site, this newsletter is circulated monthly to registered site members and friends, to supplement information on the site itself. Please forward to colleagues and other interested individuals in order to publicise the site. If you are a recent newcomer to the site, welcome - your readership is appreciated.
Developments
Because of a problem with collating statistics from Google Analytics and decorating our home, there are no new developments this month. The introduction of featured articles and navigation review are again deferred, but it is hoped these may be introduced early in the New Year!
News this month
U3A news
A number of U3A members in Great Baddow recently completed a series of computer workshops. Several U3A members with computing experience led a series of workshops to provide other U3A members with an introduction to computing, email and the Internet. Additional courses in spreadsheets, finance and digital photography are at present in progress or planned.
The workshops gave an opportunity for members to learn new IT skills in a friendly and relaxed environment, using the latest laptops and Vista operating system. To all those who participated, we wish you continued success as you put into practice what you have learned, on your own computers at home.
Additional courses may be offered in the New Year. More information about U3A.
Pedestrian crossing in Baddow Road
Essex County Council has proposed a new crossing in Baddow Road at a point approximately 60 metres east of the junction with Longfield Road and full details were provided in the formal announcement in the Essex Chronicle for Thursday 11 October 2007.
Provision of additional crossings in the village, wherever located are appreciated. However, I believe there is corresponding justification for crossings in Maldon Road by the fire station at the junction with Longmead Avenue and on Church Street at the brewery to support parents taking young children to the primary and infant schools along the Bringy.
I note the recent roadworks opposite the fire station and junction improvements. Anyone with more details about the changes, please contact me.
Winston, the singing farmer returns to Baddow
Winston, the singing farmer returns to Great Baddow on Friday 9 November 2007 at 7.30pm in the United Reformed Church. Great Baddow Online and the village welcomes the return of this popular singer and humorist, whose return visit is once again in support of the Little Havens Children's Hospice. Tickets at £6 each may now be sold out, but for late availability please contact Janet Hobart on 473359. A raffle, tea and light refreshments will be available. Profits will go towards staging "It's Show Time 2008".
Chelmsford ranked as a 'top' place to live
The inclusion of Chelmsford as one of the top 10 places to live in a recent poll comes as no surprise. A good mix of housing, fast and frequent train services to Liverpool Street; rural countryside and seaside resorts within an hour's drive make it popular with commuters and others seeking a pleasant environment in which to live and/or work.
What a pity that recent unsocial behaviour in Great Baddow is making it a less desirable suburb than it once was!
Next month and Christmas
There will be considerable activity during December with additional events around the Christmas period. If you wish to advertise your event on the site, please provide details as soon as they become available.
