Molrams Lane and Sandon

A loop round Molrams Lane with a visit to Sandon village (updated with photos - June 2007).

Cross the road opposite the west car park from the Vineyards and walk up the Chase, a small development of modern flats managed by the Shaftesbury Society. On reaching the Church go slightly left head behind the church on a path across the graveyard and exit onto Church Street by a bus stop. Turn left into Church Street Continue along Church Street passing La Vista  restaurant until after about 1/4 mile you cross the Baddow bypass.

Sandon School Turn left into Molrams Lane and cross to the opposite side where there is a footpath. Continue walking along Molrams Lane until the junction with Woodhall Road leading to Sandon village - opposite is the School.

Sandon church If you wish you can now turn right and visit Sandon village. A short distance along is the Sandon village hall and a few hundred yards further is St Andrew's Church.

Crown pub at SandonImmediately beyond is a double S bend in the road and the village green before you and to the right the Sandon Crown pub and restaurant. Return to Molrams Lane and turn right to continue the shorter walk.

Continue along Molrams Lane past some traffic bollards until you come out on Maldon Road adjacent to the site of a former Total garage, now closed. A little way along to the right just before the junction with the A12 is the site of the Park and Ride scheme.

However, turn left back towards Chelmsford. Across the fields on the opposite side of the road you may make out some of the local landmarks including the Police HQ building and the Melbourne flats, the highest residential block in Chelmsford.

King's Head pubFire station At the first roundabout continue over the bypass and turn left at the next proceeding towards the village centre along the Maldon Road. On the right by the corner of Longmead Avenue is the local fire station and a little further down you will pass the King's Head pub.

You will then come back down the Maldon road and turn left on the Causeway to pass in front of the Vineyards East car park and return to your starting point.

Distance is about 2 miles. Easy going, all on footpaths. Refreshments at the Crown during opening hours. About 1 hour for the main walk. Add approx. 20-30 minutes for the extension to Sandon.
